The practice of Suters Architects was founded in Newcastle in 1958.
During the 1960s and 1970s, the practice was responsible for a number
of important civic projects which saw its reputation spread beyond
the Hunter Valley. In the late 1980s, the practice began to expand
to allow it to take on major projects across NSW. The practice now
has 120 staff and 23 directors based in Newcastle, Sydney, Brisbane
and Melbourne.
Its founding principal, Dr Brian Suters, was awarded an honorary
doctorate by the University of Newcastle in recognition of his contribution
to the profession of architecture and the built environment.
